Poetry Shenanigans – Measuring Up

Measuring Up

There was no script,
Preordered, prewritten,
No scene preordained
Tossed, hurled,
Twirled and hurtled,
Towards the chaotic serenity,
Called life.
They said dream,
Like nobody has ever dreamt,
Run from pillar to post,
Spend your youth,
Within the four walls,
Of temples of knowledge,
Among like minded blank
slates,
Like yourself.
They said study harder,
Apply yourself harder,
The books will save you,
The words phrasing equations,
Framing laws of gravity,
Dabbling in grammar and syntax,
Whilst churning out literature and
philosophy.
Then, as you get older,
Your dreams are invalid and
negated,
You’re told to give up chasing
Other worldly visions,
That you once called dreams,
Goals and passions you once coveted.
Told to trade in your foolish ideals,
For the lessons of harsh reality,
Where you’re told,
All the lessons you were once taught,
In your foolish youth,
About kindness and compassion,
Love, peace and intolerance,
Were nothing more than,
Fables, tales, mere fiction.
How else can you justify,
All the hatred? All the destruction?
How can you be the same tongue?
That talks sweet nothings about love
and peace?
And be the tongue that lashes out at
me,
For all my differences?
For all that you dictate with terms and
conditions?
How dare you tell me to live to dream,
And savour freedom,
Only to mock me,
For my ‘naivety,’
Of daring to dream.
How can you root for hope and light,
In a world so unsteady,
Trembling and unstable,
By forces of hate, anger and envy?
How can you ask for better?
When you’d rather only focus,
On what you colour as weakness,
And label as the worst?
How can you hope for a bright future?
For all the children, for tomorrow’s future?
When all you’ve done,
Is quash, squash and destroy,
All forms of inquiry, curiosity,
and discovery,
To the minds and souls that matter most?

Poetry Shenanigans – Depth Perception

Depth Perception

There’s more cracks and crevices,
Than what meets the eye.
Like beauty, truths are buried skin deep,
Farther than what judgments and perceptions can reach.

Poetry Shenanigans

Light of Darkness

Aah darkness, my kind friend,
Wrap me up in your warm embrace.
I could really use a friend right about
now;
And you’re the oldest one I’ve ever had
And always known.
Where the whispers, jokes,
cackles and sniggers,
They think my bleary, tear filled eyes
can’t see,
Remain non existent…hidden.
Aah darkness, my solitude, my refuge.
Here they have no way to reach me.
No way to grab my shoulders,
Shove me against a wall,
Or leer at me in corners and open spaces.
Aah my kind friend darkness,
Where I can walk, sit and curl up,
Without bowing my head down,
Out of fear, out of sheer embarrassment.
Where my survival doesn’t depend,
On maintaining zero eye contact.
Aah wonderful darkness,
You are all the light left, to guide in these
unholy times and unsavoury places.
Dear darkness, please do me one more
favour,
Engulf me whole and blot the world out
at this time.

Poetry Shenanigans: Reflections

Reflections

Agitation, Trepidation,
They colour my thoughts,
Every waking moment.
Retribution, Indignation,
Like a chant,
Mumbled and murmured
everyday.
Hesitation, Frustration,
Clouding my decisions these
days.
Validation, Resolution,
The only notes of peace,
I seek out like a hungry, weary
traveller.
Revelations, Revelations,
The future beholds,
Chants and whispers,
Muttered among the wise and
the old.
Salvation to all these violations,
The future beholds.
Be your own solution,
Seek your redemption,
Within your own reflection.
Deflect all insinuations,
All misguided misinterpretations,
Towards your situation,
Because the best solution,
Lies within your Intuition.

Sanctity in Silence

Start of a new & promising month. Where has the time flown? I mean honestly, so much has happened, and I’m sure that holds true for each and everyone of you. I mean wow, how did we get here? I LOVE being busy, it keeps me going and definitely gives me purpose…and well sometimes there is no other way to move ahead in life than to get things done. Wherever your drive and life takes you, it all is for bigger & better things, or at least that’s what I keep telling myself lol. Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Sanctity in Silence

And in the silence,
I heard the rhythm and music
of the night.
Inviting and mysterious,
An element of surprise,
A sense of danger,
Lurking around some distant
corner,
Some random alley.
And in the silence,
I hear, loud and clear,
Every whisper,
Every fear,
The words behind every shed
tear.
Find your solace,
Make your peace,
For the silence is your keeper,
Your truth seeker,
And the only constant,
That will ever be.

The Wanderer

Just experimenting around with a new sorta writing & formattin’ style with the poetry-ness. Enjoy!

The Wanderer

Bouncing from place to place,
Trying to mingle, trying to belong,
In a sea of faces,
Spanning countless races,
Searching for traces of oneself,
Through this mad myriad of countless
cases,
Surrounded by unreadable and unreceptive
faces.
Stumbling and tripping over undone
laces,
While living through and with people’s
farces,
Here you are,
Trying to establish one out of many bases,
That you’ve managed to live out of,
Through the crazy times, the hazy times,
And all the other times,
When the only expression aimed your way,
Was resentment, bitterness and despair,
In the form of soul cracking gazes,
And ear piercing, heart-wracking phrases.
The curse of the wanderer, they say,
To be the outcast, the castaway.
Yet here you stand your ground,
Stomp away at all those burning
thoughts,
Countless doubts, and worries eating away
And letting you free fall from your own
good graces.
Lock eyes with all your haters,
And those countless nay-sayers,
And show them the depths, phases and realms,
Of true integrity, stamina, intensity and
strength,
So that they never forget,
The fire, spirit and depth of the ones,
They dared to berate and belittle,
And insult, in way too many ways
And way too many times,
As the clue-less, soul-less vagabonds
And face-less wanderers.
