Poetry Shenanigans – Human Condition

So this particular poem was inspired while I was going through the news yesterday morning. And honestly, going through the news these days, there’s more heartbreak and suffering that some people are thriving off of. They would much rather live off of sowing seeds of discord & hate than try and help others out as their equals. However, that doesn’t mean that there is no hope in the world, there is, but sometimes the efforts to bring out a unified front is much harder than a bunch of bullies banding together and tormenting others.

Anyway, that’s about it for my lil’ frustration filled rant. Now, here’s the poem & as always, feel free to leave & share your thots!

Human Condition

With everyone calling for visibility,
Just how invisible have we become?
When did we forget?
That being human,
Meant, being one?
When did we lose ourselves?
When did we divide ourselves?
By religion, caste, gender and orientation,
And, spewing so much hate.
When did we allow one’s suffering,
To be another’s victory?
When did we let discrimination,
Take up so much space?
When did we turn into unfeeling beings?
Able to withstand so much oppression,
And so much violence?
When did we settle to be ignorant?
And have others make our choices and
shape our opinions?
What happened to the rebels and explorers,
The visionaries, the dreamers,
That resided deep within?
When did we agree,
To be divided, to be boxed in?
When did we allow,
Fears and insecurities,
Of bullies and oppressors,
And people in positions of power,
To erase our choices,
And dictate our futures?
When did we prioritize,
Nursing bruised egos,
And appeasing megalomaniacs,
Over peace, harmony and prosperity?
When did we allow freedom,
To be a fairytale, a myth,
And nothing more than a quixotic dream?

Poetry Shenanigans – Survivor

Survivor

Breathe easy, stay still.
Their words, their actions,
Cuts, burns and stings,
Absorb it all, breathe it all in.
But most of all,
Stay firm, stay strong, stay still.
For, this too shall pass,
And all that will last,
Is you, and your strong and firm will.

Poetry Shenanigans – Blink

Another day, another poem. Thank you dear muse for coming around & inspiring a few words outta me, it’s been a while, but it’s good to have you back! To everybody else, happy reading!

Blink

In the blink of an eye,
Life will pass you by.
In the blink of an eye,
You better be ready to say goodbye.
In the blink of an eye,
Wars are won,
Empires crumble,
New life stumbles, wobbles,
And makes itself valid and present.
In the blink of an eye,
Hearts beat, hearts break,
Hesitation creeps in,
And hasty decisions are made.
In the blink of an eye,
You’re on top of the world,
In the blink of an eye,
Gravity is your best friend,
While your free falling nightmare never
seems to end.
In the blink of an eye,
Poetry is written,
In the blink of an eye,
Inspiration stems and grows deep within.
In the blink of an eye,
You’re the nobody,
Who unknowingly stumbles into the limelight,
To become a household name.
In the blink of an eye,
You’re the centre of attention,
Who fades into the background,
And falls from grace.
A distant memory,
Faded to gray.
In the blink of an eye,
You may wonder how and why,
It all came together,
And wonder and ponder,
At how it all fell apart.
In the blink of an eye,
Who you were a moment ago,
Is no longer who you are anymore.
So stop to smell the roses,
Celebrate your victories,
Embrace your failures,
Feel your tears,
Salty and bittersweet.
For in the blink of an eye,
When all is said and done,
Be free, be liberated,
From bitterness, from animosity,
From the chains and weight of regret.

Poetry Shenanigans – Kindling

Kindling

Maybe one day,
Some day,
You’ll burn the same way I did,
To learn the lessons I learned.
Maybe one day,
You’ll feel,
The cost of actions,
The weight of words.
Oh who am I kidding,
You’ll never learn,
You’ll never feel that fire,
That raged and burned,
Smoldered, smothered and snuffed out,
Parts and pieces of me,
Unto the point of no return.
You’ll never see the scars,
Thickened and branded,
Upon this tainted soul and heart.
Oh indeed,
Who am I kidding?
For you’d have to be human,
To learn, to feel,
To rise above it all,
To heal,
As opposed to the sorry excuse,
Of Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen,
You’ve come to be.

Poetry Shenanigans – Illumination

Illumination

There is a general sense of apprehension,
Everyone feigning comprehension.
Can’t you feel it?
The air, thick with tension?
When will we ever learn our lesson?
Ever so eager,
To create that stellar first impression.
We’ve mastered the art of suppression,
Pawns turned masters of oppression.
How can we talk about liberation?
When we live in constant denial,
Of our own voluntary subjugation?
And constant dissociation,
Between mind, body and spirit?

Poetry Shenanigans – Preacher, Say A Prayer

Things have been a bit topsy turvy around the world these days. Some headlines have blown my mind, because they’ve been just that mind boggling & some headlines have restored a diminishing faith in humanity. All the stupid, ignorant fools in the world have been using our differences, be it physical, genetic, emotional, mental, sexual, religious…and the list goes on, in the worst ways possible. Why does it matter if we’re different? It’s what makes us unique & it is also what brings us together. Just think about it, if we all thought the same way, then life as we know it would be boring & bland, we wouldn’t be scurrying about trying to discover & create things that make our lives better, that enriches our souls & makes us better people & that just makes us as a species better.

Anyway, I’m done with my lil’ schpiel here. All I have to say is we’re stronger together, so stay strong & stay united.

Preacher, Say A Prayer

Preachers, prayer men,
Stack your prayers,
Your principles,
Your beliefs,
Your faith.
Set it on fire,
Like the incense you set alight,
To drive the stench out and away.
What good are your words,
Your sermons and prayers?
Meant to spread love,
Meant to unite?
To be a light in the darkness,
In these times of despair;
When all that’s happening,
When all we see,
Are the sharp claws,
Of hatred,
Of unacceptance,
Ripping us apart,
And shredding us to pieces,
All in the name of a faceless God.
Claimed by none,
Blindly worshipped by all.
How do you believe in something beyond?
When you’ve chosen to ignore,
Chosen to forget,
That there is God,
Within us all.

Poetry Shenanigans – Of Devils & Dues

Of Devils & Dues

I thought if I spoke the devil’s name,
And cut my losses,
I could set myself free.
Only,
The devil I thought I freed myself from,
Is ever omnipresent,
Smirking, leering at me,
Whilst celebrating life and free will,
While, I keep running,
Sprinting from dreams,
Ever haunting,
And a broken reality,
That never fails to remind me,
Of my shortcomings, my weaknesses,
Of all that’s broken within,
Eternally hunting those chinks in my armour,
To forever incapacitate,
The fighter, the warrior,
That breathes within,
The dreamer, the optimist,
That never ceases to find the light within.
One day the devil will get his due,
And while he pays his dues,
I finally get to live,
A life of exuberance, innocence and freedom,
Once stolen from me.

Poetry Shenanigans – Monochromatic Lies while Technicolor Tries

Monochromatic Lies while Technicolor Tries

Train tracks,
Paper stacks,
Life keeps piling up.
Overworked, Underappreciated,
Nothing seems enough.
Words…
They build you up,
And raze you to the ground.
Never enough kind words,
To make a day, to help find a way.
Not enough silence,
To hear yourself scream and shout,
At the injustice of it all.
The voices and noises,
Of all those around,
Drowning out,
The most important voice and sound
of them all.
The one that lies within.
In all this confusion,
In this ever growing haze,
In this deafening din,
Filled with chants in the guise of advice,
Telling you how to live your life,
You’ve lost all evidence,
Every single trace,
And have become yet another countless face,
That’s lost the way.
Forgotten the promises,
You made to yourself along the way,
Of never compromising,
Never relinquishing control.
All you remember,
Are the harsh words, the scoffing,
All the days and ways
Your dreams were scoffed at,
And mercilessly squashed,
Your morale crushed beyond recognition,
You relented…you don’t know how or when,
But, you let them naysayers win.
And now every day is just another mundane one,
A scheduled day of activity and events,
A routine, a cycle,
With no room for spontaneity,
No spark of ingenuity or creativity fueled within.
All is not lost though,
You still feel it within,
You hear it calling, deep within.
Faint as it might be, it’s no hallucination.
Don’t lose your grip,
To your individuality.
In this world of bots and followers,
Don’t forget you can break free.
Let the haters and beraters unleash,
The bitterness that lies within.
You were built to withstand them all,
You were made to be better.
Hold on to that voice deep within,
That you hear ever so faintly,
Ever so often,
Because you have a mark to make,
A few lives to change,
And a legacy to leave behind,
For some to envy
And for others to follow.

Poetry Shenanigans – Wrap & Roll … Lock & Load

Wrap & Roll … Lock & Load

Be a wraith,
Embrace the hate,
Be a ghost,
Barely there,
Yet ever-present,
For,
They’re the ones who lost their faith.
Stand tall,
After every fall,
The harder you go down,
The harder you fight your way back to the top.
This is your life,
Your match,
Your march,
Your parade.
You’re the victor,
Your scars,
Are mere tales engraved.
They’re a sign,
Of the residual fire that remains.
That burns brighter,
Every single day,
Relentless and unforgiving,
A blaze,
That razes all the doubts and haters,
Who make the mistake of getting in your way.
Here comes the next blow,
Roll with the punches,
Take a hit, two or many more.
Take a hit till they can’t hit anymore.
Test your mettle, flex your steel.
Take it all in,
Until the day you make your stand.
Plant those feet, dig them in.
One, two, three,
Here we go.
Block, jab, cross your way,
And when you see your moment,
Don’t hold back,
Take them down,
It’s time for a TKO.
